The tree was already growing strongly when I took on the plot and I’ve given it two quite severe prunings to move the cherries lower down the tree so I can reach some to harvest but still leave enough for the birds towards the top of the tree. I now prune back the new growth about this time each year and it does seem to have improved the crop. Another bonus this year is the lack of pests – nothing worse than finding extra protein…

The raspberries and sweet pea are also moving into full production.
They look delicious!
Any idea what variety it is? I’m considering adding a cherry tree to my allotment, though the blasted pigeons do put me off rather. Yours look delicious though
I don’t know the variety, it’s a legacy tree. It is a sweet variety, so best guess would be Stella. I’ve come to an agreement with the birds: they have the fruit high up in the tree and I have everything within reach – it did take a bit of pruning to make I got a fair share!
