The allotment cutting patch is up to speed. I’m hopeful this is the first of many armfuls of flowers I bring home from the plot.
I’m not usually drawn to bubble-gum pink. There are two peony varieties here, one I think is mislabelled as I’d expect Sarah Bernhardt to be a much softer pink. The other smaller buds are Eden’s Promise. I’m not sure what the promise is, there’s little perfume unless it is the centre revealing golden stamens.
The peonies are joined by delphiniums, foxgloves, alchemilla mollis and super tall antirrihnums who over-wintered, hoping for more favourable growing conditions. There are several stems of toadflax (Linaria purpurea, Canon J Went) who has happily self-seeded. These stems are in bud, hoping to limit future generations…
I’ve been on a mission to use more foliage and here we have some baby blue eucalytus, grown from seed and asparagus fern – evidence I’m growing more asparagus than I can eat!
The vase is arranged to sit against the chimney breast in the living room – here are the side views

And in its designated spot. I moved one of the (not) Sarah Bernhardt peonies to fill the front gap. I like the way the pink pops against the rest of the more restrained colour palette.
Thanks to Cathy for hosting and sharing her creations. Ramble over to be inspired.

I’m SO envious! The day I get peonies to bloom I’ll think I’ve gone to heaven.

Thanks Kris. I did have to move the plants from their first venue at the plot as the soil was too poor and free-draining. In their current location, I added lots of manure and compost and they are in part shade. I also water them heavily if there hasn’t been any rain. It’s certainly not right plant, right place but there is determination!
What a sumptuous vase – such abundance, Sharon – and you have such a good place to display it too. The not Sarah Berhardt is such an intriguing colour and makes such an impact against the rich green foliage
Thanks Cathy. The chimney breast is on the makeover list – it may become a proper fireplace. In the meantime, I’ll carry on finding ways to camoflage my reflection in the mirror!
Oh, I ddn’t see that (must go back and look!)…!! 😂We have no blank surfaces in our house!!
There is quite a variety of plant material. Love the unique foliage. Makes for a full and lovely vase.
Thanks Donna. I still working on applying the principle of ‘less is more’ 🙂
Simply gorgeous! ❣️ Can’t wait for my peonies to open too! 😄
Thanks. I do feel like the peonies have been at tight bud stage for a very long time this year!
