It’s Saturday which means it’s time for six things from the garden. I had intended to mow the grass today but it’s just too hot and humid for that sort of activity. Much better to retreat to the house and blog about the garden instead!

Most things are still in their fresh, bouncy phase. The roses have mostly finished their first flush and the ammi has given up and turned brown, but apart from that everyone is following the agreed plan.

  1. Patio fence – the jasmine is doing a great job covering these panels and the scent from the flowers is delicious. The rose continues to produce atomic orange blooms but I’ve forgiven it.

2. Herbaceaous border – This part of the sunny border is shaded by the house by mid afternoon. This is a lost label hydrangea that fades elegantly throughout autumn. I also like the way the Salvia nemerosa contrasts and filters the colour.

3. Sunny herbaceous border – This corner is dominated by the guaras and alchmilla mollis. I like the froth.

4. Pergola bed – The wisteria has completed its mission to cover the pergola and providing shade from the afternoon sun. The flower bed is a little shaggy, the knautia macedonica has a nasty case of powdery mildew and the nepeta six hills giant needs more robust support.

5. North border is green and lush. Survivor hydrangea to the left is about to bloom and both the japanese anemome and periscaria look to be growing out of the bed.

6. North border extension – this is part shady, getting the afternoon sun. The shot is from the sunny end with the foxgloves providing a pop of colour against the greens.

That’s my six and now the clouds are covering the sky, I’ll go mow the lawn. Remember to call by Jim’s to meet the rest of the sixers.
