Or as I prefer to describe it, a green manure harvest.  Somewhere under the canopy of unwanted plants is the strawberry bed.  I seem to have lost the ability to grow strawberries, I don’t when that happened but they don’t like it at Cole Park.

Most of the ‘weeds’ are seeds that survived the composting process and the most prolific is Ammi majus.  It’s just as well I like the flowers, it seems I may never be without the plant…

Halfway through and I find strawberry plants and they are still producing fruit.  I’ve removed the fruit as I want the plants to put energy into a) surviving the winter and b) producing masses of fruit next June. These plants clearly like their conditions and are worth propagating rather than buying yet more (to die)
