Weddings are stressful and I’m just supplying the table flowers! This is my first practice using the bowls and gel beads selected by the bride. There are four weeks to go until the big day; I’m confident the zinnias will still be producing but the Cafe au Lait dahlias still have some way to go. Fingers crossed.
The large bowl has thrown me into a bit of a tiz – I’m more of a jam jar arranger! I’m open to advice, guidance and styling tips – please!
The same bowl from various angles – as if sitting at a circular table for 10…
It contains zinnia elegans – Benary’s giant golden yellow, Super yoga dark red, Purple Prince and Luminosa pink. Fillers are alchemillia mollis and A. visnaga
Thanks to Cathy over at Rambling in the Garden for hosting this meme. Join her there to take a look at her always lovely vase.
I can imagine the pressure you feel to have the right flowers at the right time!
I’m not familiar with zinnia – how tall do they grow?
This is my first successful year with zinnias. They are currently 50-70cm ish tall.
Quite tall then! Good luck with the flower arrangement, Sharon.
I think you’ve done a great job with the bowl-shaped vase. It’s a very well-balanced arrangement!
Thanks!
All rounders…how many will end up as button holes by the end of the evening or embellishing hairdos? The colours are fab…
Crikey, that is a challenging shape! I am no expert, but I think I would start with one ammi head and some alchemilla around it then arrange zinnias amongst the alchemilla. Not sure if the zinnias would need to be different stem lengths. The alchemilla certainly looks good softening the edges of the vase and I like the tall white stems – lysimachia? veronica? You have also mentioned Cafe au lait dahlias – one bloom of those would fill the vase, wouldn’t it…?! 🙂 It might be a case of trial and error, but it’s good to pracice different variations and you could always have photos of each which you could compare side by side. Do show us what you decide on in the end – and the real thng of course!!
Ooh I like that arrangement idea. It will certainly make the zinnias go further. The tall stem is Veronica. Added as a survivor from another faded vase. Next week will probably be a practice with sunflowers. Dahlias are coming along but not ready yet. I’m hoping for just in time!
Ah, so you have free choice of flowers – that’s better! So it might not be zinnia and alchemilla and A visnaga then?! I would ditch the ammi in that case as I think it is is too chunky for this vase – but that is just in my opinion and I haven’t got the materials in front of me 😉 It will be interesting to see how the sunflowers look as again they may be too chunky unless the arrangement is much taller. What fun you will have experimenting – as long as the pressure doesn’t get to you!!
