I’m back from an afternoon at Chelsea. My overall impression from the show gardens is this year is generally a subdued colour palette, mostly whites through to mauve and almost every garden had lupins. Quite how this many lupins (aka mollusc caviar) have escaped their slimy jaws is a miracle. Here’s the evidence.
My favourite garden was Silent Pool; sculptures, calm water and gin – what’s not to love! Also not one single lupin!
I thought the sculpture in the Myeloma garden was stunning and the story behind it very sad.
This trade stand demonstrates what’s possible when you have enough driftwood and an imagination and sense of humour to match.
I’m definitely growing this dahlia next year.
and to put it all back into its proper perspective, I spotted this quote.
Yes, I thought lupins win out this year! This is a lovely selection you have photographed. I can’t remember a year when there has been such a range of colours of lupins. I think all your favourite gardens are mine too – probably because we share a love of flowers and cottage-style planting!
Thanks Ali. I’m definitely drawn to the gardens planted with flowers😊
I’m with you on the favourite garden. I’ve been watching the TV coverage and thinking I’d really like to go to a show some time. Though I suspect you get the best view of the show gardens on TV.
Yes, the TV coverage does show you more of the gardens but there is something about being there. Personally, I prefer Hampton Court – there’s a bit more space and it takes itself less seriously.
Lovely post and pictures. That quote has me nodding and smiling. xx
Thanks. I hoped the quote would have people smiling and nodding
