Each Monday Cathy at Rambling In The Garden invites us to share a vase, arranged with flowers and foliage from the garden (or in my case, the allotment cutting patch)
This is my first entry and I confess these gladioli and bells of Ireland have been in the vase since Saturday, but I was on a bus at 0715 this morning! Hopefully it’s the taking part that counts.
These are from Sarah Raven’s velvet collection (I gave in to a 20% off offer earlier this year) plum tart and purple flora. I was expecting the white to be green star, but it’s a packing error I can live with.
Dame Edna would be proud…
I love gladioli, and they always make me think of Dame Edna too! We have a field nearby where we can buy them, but no sign of any blooms as yet.
Such rich, lovely colors! I like the jug, too.
Glads don’t get proper respect here in Southern California either but, the more I see them (usually in IaVoM vases), the more I think of trying them in my own garden. That deep burgundy variety is luscious! Welcome to the IaVoM club!
Thank you 😊
Very pretty combination. My gladioli are not blooming yet here in New Jersey so it’s nice to see blooms. Lovely post.
Thank you. By UK standards, this spring and summer has been mostly dry and hot.
We’ve had a cool spring/early summer and very wet. Many of the flowers are blooming late but when they do bloom, blooming big. Although my larkspur hated the dampness and had mildew.
Yes, welcome to the IAVOM community; you will soon find out how friendly and supportive we are. Your gladioli are such sumptuous colours and the molucella provide a great contrast – my attempt at growing them from seed last year was a dismail failure. Do have a secret to success…?! I am busy on Monday mornings so make my vases on Sundays now, write the post and then schedule it to publish at 9.00 on Monday morning – something to think about? Not that we mind when your vase was made or when you publish your post – we just want people to have the pleasure of picking from their gardens to bring pleasure into their houses (or workplaces)
Thank you for your warm welcome. I think the molucella is beginners luck but only two seedlings made it to plants. I didn’t realise they have thorns/spikes – ouch. I do schedule a lot of posts and since the vases are filled at the weekend, it should be easy to add (she says 🙄)
Will you try the molucella again, even with spikes and poor germination?
Yes, I’ll give them a second chance and sow a little later
Lovely. I like gladioli and generally grow some on the plot. xx
