I arrived at the plot with some trepidation yesterday; would the greenhouse still have glass? would the polytunnel still be there? would the sheds still have their roofs?
I was relieved that the plot seemed pretty much unscathed, despite being in the path of the prevailing wind. The bubble wrap inside the greenhouse had come unattached in places – go figure and some netting had come unfastened.
It took me a while to notice the gaping hole in the polytunnel. My concern was how to make a repair that would hold as the polythene had been trimmed. Then I remembered the roll of poly repair tape (brilliant stuff) I used that to ‘tack’ the pleats as I formed them and then ran a length down the door side, which gave me and a plot neighbour something to hold and tension as the batten went back in place.
The lesson is – don’t skimp on the nails!

it’s always a worry when there’s been high winds. Good to see that all was mostly okay and that you could repair the polytunnel . xx
Glad you could sort it! I’d love polytunnel but my allotment site is on the side of a mountain 😕 Very windy most days 😀 Plot holders regularly lose greenhouses and sheds! A few years back, the committee mini cabin was found in a back-garden near the site!!
Another blogger has posted a picture of her shed, literally ripped from it’s base!! Despite my battening issues, I think a polytunnel is more resistant than greenhouses to high wind – just remember to hammer in a nail every 2″ or so:)
Oh dear poor thing!!If I ever get a polytunnel, I will most definitely follow your advice 🙂
Good work: it’s a couple of days since the storm passed and we still have plot holders turning up and “Doris-checking” including “tadpole Bob” whose greenhouse glass was spread in little pieces far and wide!
Poor Bob!
yeah we were up there this morning (annual rent payments due) and he was showing us photos of some of the pieces of glass embedded in the side of a nearby shed! God job nobody standing in the way and that he spotted the shard there.
But – rents now dutifully paid.
So glad your hard work wasn’t completely undone by Doris
Thanks. Love the socks and sandals look BTW;)
Maybe something you could consider for the plot?😉
I’ve already perfected my Aunt Sally plot look 🙂
That’s good news! My plot was in good order too, the lid of the incinerator bin had blown off but that was all. Although a few people lost polytunnels, and there was a tree down on the path that runs along the site!
So pleased your plot was relatively unscathed!
Where could I get poly repair tape from? I think that would be useful for repairing some plastic cloche I have.
