These magnificent dinner plate dahlias were planted in May in the optimistic hope they would be in flower at the end of August to be the star of the wedding flowers. There were three early blooms, but it’s only now that the flowers are available in any quantity.
These blooms are a gorgeous colour; faded pink to beige. They are well-named and loved by florists but they are challenging my limited flower arranging skills – how to get them to hold up their heads. What do other people do with large headed dahlias?

The other dahlias, zinnias and now chrysanthemums are all yielding huge armfuls of blooms. Curiously, the neighbours are much happier to receive a bunch of flowers than another three cucumbers!

They’re beautiful, I’m going to add dahlias to my list of things to grow!
You must and zinnias too – so uncool they’re bound to be trendy next year!!
Beautiful! I love flowers
What’s wrong with cucumbers 😉?
Lovely flowers, anyway.
I’ve had that problem with huge dahlias too – they swamp everything else, don’t they? Still stunning though.
