This has been a busy plot weekend, in spite of the weather. On Saturday, there was an Easter egg hunt – we opened the gates at around 1230 and wondered if anyone would come…and they did, eggs were hunted, easter nests and baskets were made and cake and chocolate was eaten.

Our MP called in to show her support – the site is still under threat of development and the closing date for objections to be lodged is Tuesday.

Then I got on with some planting. Although a little early in the year, it was time for the potatoes to go in. I only bother with earlies (Sharpes Express) and second earlies (Charlottes) After the ninja mice incident, I kept the replacement potato bags in the car where they chitted beautifully – nice fat and stumpy shoots.
I dug trenches in the open bed for the Charlottes – there’s a job that doesn’t get any easier. I like to add a bit of compost to the bottom of the trench as I find the potatoes come out a bit cleaner. A sprinkle of organic fertiliser; space the potatoes about 6-8 inches apart, pressed into their soft compost bed; backfill the trench and count to a 100 before firtling…

I hope to planting my Charlottes later this week. There’s nothing like a good firtle is there! xx
There should be a national firtling dya🤗
Good luck with the trenches.
Thank you so much for your calm wisdom on my damaged poly-greenhouse issue. I got the sewing machine out and found metres of narrow curtain tape in a drawer. I pinned and sewed it onto the torn plastic sides in two rows for added strength. Then I pinned and sewed the zipper tape through it. All done.
