When I first took on the plot, which is almost 10 years ago (I feel old!) I thought an allotment would be nothing without peas and strawberries. That is still true, although I’m taking a rest from peas this year after 3 consecutive years of dismal crops. Hello Birdseye 😉 I’ve recently added flowers to my must-have list. Not just the flowers to bring colour and deter pests but ones to harvest for the vase. I’ve just cut my first bouquet of peonies and roses. Didn’t I say they look stunning together in the same vase. I’m also feeling rather pleased with my flower arranging: Sarah Raven was right about the Alchemilla Mollis – brings it all together.

*SWOON* This bouquet has stolen my heart, particularly those delicate white peonies. I’m so pleased that my peony did wonderfully this year, especially since last year it failed to produce any blooms at all. I love using Lady’s Mantle in arrangements too, it has the added benefit of keeping it from seeding all over my garden 😉
