It’s been three months, mostly due to iCloud not uploading photos to my pc anymore. Using my iPad to creates posts is working but it’s still odd. Here goes, six from the garden.
The dry, hot sunny weather was appreciated by the long red Florence onions. They look like shallots but are main crop onions. They are now drying in the greenhouse. The large bulbs to the left grew in full sun and the much smaller were in one of the new raised beds in part shade.

The Japanese anemones struggled during the hot, dry weather but have perked up and are happily flowering.

In an ideal world these calabrese would have been planted out at least a month ago. However the cabbage white butterflies found that batch and their caterpillars finished them off. I sowed these at the end of August and I’m hopeful of some small calabrese heads before winter arrives. Note the bespoke caterpillar protection – it works much better when deployed!

The wisteria is in its second year and has covered the pergola as per its brief. There was a second round of flowers in July which made me happy. The orange seat cushion in the background is taking cover in the greenhouse out of the rain.

The dahlias did not do well this year; more than usual rotted, others just didn’t thrive. This is a cutting from Henriette who did make it but has only just started to flower. It has just started to develop a new shoot. There is hope for next year if I can get this through the winter.

I purchased a fig tree Osborne’s prolific from Shoot, it arrived as an unpromising stick. It also enjoyed the hot sunny weather and produced four figs. They were soft but not ripe but at least it’s got the general idea.

That’s my six for this week. I’m off to Hastings and Rye next weekend so there will be more radio silence. Happy growing.

How exciting that the fig already tried to fruit.
