I visited Battersea power station to see what the fuss was all about. It’s good to see the structure repurposed but behind the hype it’s just another shopping centre.

I took Lift 109, named because the chimney is 109 metres tall. There was something quite odd about rising to the top of the chimney in a glass capsule, and I had a moment of worry that the lift mechanism might not stop!

It did and the views were amazing on one of the few clear bright days we had in January. If you squint, you can see the arch of Wembley stadium in the middle shot.

We had about 15 minutes at the top of the chimney and although it was wonderful to see the sun shine, it did make the capsule rather warm. I was glad when we started our descent. I wonder how they manage on hot summer days?
