The first stems of gladioli Sancerre were waiting for me on Saturday – there are 17 more! My memory may be playing tricks but I’m certain the previous blooms had more green to them – thinking of a typical crisp white wine. These are distinctly buttery but as more open along the stem, the more I like the look.
I’ve deployed my favourite jug vase and matched the gladioli with stems of white dahlia – Adam’s choice and blanc y verde followed by a stray stem of hydrangea Limelight from the garden.
It makes me smile.

Very pretty! I’m a huge fan of Glads, Dahlias, Hydrangeas, and your other elements. I really like the form of the arrangement and the vessel. 🙂

That’s a perfect combination! I have mixed feelings about gladiolas but that one may be the prettiest I’ve ever seen and it looks fantastic with the dahlias. I’ve no vase to share this week as I’ve just returned from a trip but I hope to be back in the game by next Monday.

Thanks Kris. Another 8 stems were ready on Monday. These are in a vase on the kitchen island, daring careless arms to come within range!
My goodness, Sharon, those gladioli are doing well! Do you lift and replant them? Like Kris, I have mixed feelings about them but if they grew reliably I might think differently – and I would also prefer them cut than growing! We do have strange foibles, don’t we? The dahlias and hydrangea pick up the shades really well and I hope your vase survived careless arms!!
I planted the bulbs in February this year – sale bargain bulbs! I don’t lift them and hopefully this free draining sandy clay soil will be to their liking
Sandy clay soil sounds like a good mix!
